Welcome to Tresillian’s Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) skills group program for new mothers.

Who is the program for?

The DBT program is designed for mothers with babies up to 12 months, who live or work/study in CESPHN area (see map) who have been diagnosed with perinatal mood disorder and related disorders. The program is helpful for those who may require practical skills in changing unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving. It will also assist in learning how to manage strong emotions and cope with distressing situations.

The program may also benefit mothers learn how to support their child’s development by understanding their own emotions as well as those of their child.  The program is based on Marsha Linehan’s Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) program.

The Program Structure

12-week skills based weekly group program

3 hours long and includes a 30-minute break.

Each week, the sessions will focus on teaching new skills covering the four components of DBT.

The Acceptance Modules - it is what it is, now what?

  1. Mindfulness - staying as present as possible in the moment without thinking of past and future events.
  2. Distress Tolerance – develop the ability to cope in times of high distress and manage strong emotions.

The Change Modules – where change happens

  1. Emotion Regulation - regulation of strong emotions for beneficial outcomes.
  2. Interpersonal Effectiveness- improving important relationships, expressing wants and needs, setting achievable boundaries, and keeping self-respect intact.

The program has a workbook with handouts making the sessions easy to follow. The handouts are simple to implement and require daily practice.

Note:

All mothers will be contacted by the Group Facilitator/Psychologist (Sara) for a pre-screening interview to ensure eligibility and group readiness.

 Child Minding - offered Free Of Charge -

12th June is a Public Holiday  and there will NOT be a class on this day -

Pre-screening interviews will be held by Sara -

If you or your GP/treating practitioner wish to discuss directly with Sara (Psychologist), Group Administrator will let her know.
