What is the Virtual Residential Parenting Service (VRPS) ?
Having a new baby is a huge change to your life. There may be times you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed, but support is available.
The Tresillian Virtual Residential Parenting Service is a free 4-night/5-day service. Over the five days that you're enrolled, you can speak with a Tresillian child and family nurse, GP, psychologist and social worker who work in partnership with you to help make sense of your child’s crying, sleep, feeding and behaviour.
It's our aim to help you build a positive relationship with your child, giving you confidence and reassurance as you progress through your parenting journey. We can also support you with your own emotional well-being.
There will be planned sessions every day and 24-hour parenting support if you need to contact a nurse outside of these sessions. This service is accessed on your own device at home.
Some sessions during the admission are at fixed times and others are more flexible. Speak to your child and family nurse to work out a schedule that suits your needs and family routines. You can contact the VRPS team at any time (day or night) during your 5-day period to discuss any issues.
We welcome spouses/partners and other caregivers to join the sessions.
The Tresillian Virtual Residential Parenting Service is a confidential service funded by NSW Health. The service uses the NSW Health secure myVirtualCare platform. You are required to have reliable internet and your own personal device (preferably a laptop or ipad/tablet) to access the service.
Your admission to Tresillian Virtual Residential Parenting Service
Day 1: Starts with a 1 to 1.5 hour one-to-one virtual meeting with your Tresillian child and family nurse. The nurse will complete assessments and talk about your goals. From there, you can set up more sessions with the nurse for that day. We aim to meet with you at least twice each day. You can also call the nurse outside of your scheduled sessions for extra support as needed.
Days 2 - 4: Each morning starts with a one-to-one virtual meeting with the nurse. You will meet with our GP for a 30–45-minute consultation. If necessary, you will have the opportunity to connect with a counsellor.
Day 5: You will have your last one-to-one virtual meeting with the nurse to finalise your discharge plan to assist with continuing with your parenting choices. Discharge will occur by 10:00am.
