New Free Support Service For Central West Parents Officially Opens

Member of the Legislative Council and Select Committee on Birth Trauma, The Hon. Stephen Lawrence, MLC, officially opened Gidget House Cowra at Tresillian Family Care Centre last Friday 11 April, welcoming the service to more parents in the Central West.

The Hon. Stephen Lawrence, MLC, said, “We know that up to one in five women and one in 10 men will experience anxiety and/or depression in the perinatal period up to 12 months after their child is born.

“This fantastic new service in Cowra will provide the care and support that local parents and families need.”

Gidget House Cowra at Tresillian Cowra Family Care Centre is set to offer free GP referred, specialist counselling sessions to potential, expectant and new parents.

Building on Gidget Foundation Australia’s commitment to expanding their services to support rural and regional Australians, this will be the third Gidget House to officially open in the region. Assisting parents struggling with early parenthood, the service offers a blend of bulk-billed, face-to-face and telehealth counselling.

Clinical Director of Gidget Foundation Australia Karen Edwards, says the expansion of face-to-face services to Cowra will increase the support available for parents in Central West New South Wales.
